Jacqui Spiers - founder of Tribal Fire

I have been bellydancing for over 12 years and started to teach classes through Adult Education and freelance over 8 years ago. I have also taught numerous workshops at Arts festivals, Schools, and Cultural Projects.

My interest in American Tribal Style Bellydance began after I watched a mesmorizing performance by Fatchance Bellydance at Majma Dance Festival 6 years ago.

In October 2008 after applying and being accepted for the courses, I received General Skills and Teacher Training Certification from Carolena Nerricio the creator and founder of Fatchance Bellydance.  Further inspiration has come from Wendy Marlatt and Samantha Emanuel.

I was first attracted to belly dance when I saw Jacqui dancing at Tavistock carnival in 2005. I quickly joined her class and I have never looked back. I started with Egyptian style and then moved on to ATS.  I really enjoy dancing and cannot imagine my world without it.

I took up belly dancing initially to keep fit. I had no idea what I was letting myself in for! It has over-taken my life and become a passion that allows me to express my creative nature in both the dancing itself and designing my costumes.

I started Egyptian belly dancing about 8 years ago with Jacqui Spiers, she's my inspiration to dance, then Jacqui started ATS tribal and I was hooked! I would not be without dancing, it is a way of expressing yourself.

I have always danced and through my love of world music I discovered belly dance 3 years ago.  I work with textiles and enjoy creating and designing costumes. Since starting to bellydance I have had a baby girl and have found this sacred dance form invaluable for the preparation of labour and birth.
